SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (Oct. 24, 2013) GoDaddy, a global technology company that helps people leverage the power of the Internet, is an official tournament sponsor of Rugby League World Cup 2013 (RLWC2013). The event’s return to the United Kingdom begins Saturday with the Opening Ceremony and a spectacular doubleheader featuring England and Australia, followed by Wales against Italy. Competitions are held in England, Wales, Ireland and France, which gives GoDaddy the opportunity to touch a wide range of people in Europe and beyond. The live matches are also being broadcast across the UK and in France, Australia, India, Canada, Singapore, New Zealand and the Middle East as well.
RLWC2013 is the first major sporting event to take place in the UK since the London 2012 Summer Olympics and the sponsorship provides a tremendous opportunity for GoDaddy to promote its brand in front of millions of passionate UK rugby fans.
“Rugby is a part of life here in the UK, a fun part of the culture … its fans are passionate and I can think of no better way to raise awareness with potential GoDaddy customers than to be involved with Rugby League World Cup,” said GoDaddy International Senior Vice President James Carroll, who is a native of Ireland. “We want people throughout Europe to know the GoDaddy name and to understand that we are here to help small businesses leverage the power of the Internet. We are here to give small businesses, the ‘little guy,’ the kind of Internet advantages typically reserved for the ‘big guys.’ That’s what we are all about and we believe we can help many more people looking to use the Internet to grow their businesses right here in Europe.’’
GoDaddy is the Web’s top platform for small businesses empowering people to easily start, confidently grow and successfully run their own ventures. Based in Scottsdale, Ariz., U.S., GoDaddy is the world’s largest provider of Web hosting, domain names and net-new SSL Certificates used to keep websites secure. GoDaddy operates data centre facilities in Europe and Asia. It also has offices in India and Canada, as well as several others in the U.S.
“GoDaddy has helped thousands of small business around the world create an online presence and now we’ll see GoDaddy’s presence in what many in the UK call ‘the greatest game on earth’,” said Rugby League World Cup 2013 General Manager Sally Bolton. “GoDaddy’s commitment to comprehensive, high-quality products and award-winning customer service is what makes them a global leader in their industry, so it’s great for us to have them onboard. We’re looking forward to an active partnership with GoDaddy.”
As part of the RLWC2013 sponsorship, GoDaddy branding will be featured prominently at matches. Signage will be on the post protectors and on pitch-side perimeter boards. Millions are expected to tune in Saturday with hundreds of thousands expected to fill the stadium over the next five weeks.
While GoDaddy is intensifying its UK mission, the Internet company has been marketing in the region since 2008. Over the years, GoDaddy has invested in TV commercials, London Underground advertising, as well as radio and online marketing. GoDaddy ads have also appeared in major sporting events, such as Barclays Premier League, a Rugby World Cup warm-up match in 2011 and were also present during the London-based 2012 Summer Olympics. GoDaddy commercials have recently aired on British television during popular programs such as The X-Factor and Downton Abbey. GoDaddy’s commitment to the region is supported by further marketing spends and sponsorship deals, including the broadcast sponsorship of ITV’s UEFA Europa League coverage in 2014.
