Sync staging and production - never in alignment - reconcile the two

How do you ever reconcile staging and production when development work is ongoing; new forms, updated images, more data captured from users in production.

I read that you're supposed to pull prod to staging, then make changes and testing in staging, then push it back to production. However, development work is ongoing and I'm not going to shut down my website.

How do I continue developing and enhancing the website in staging and pushing that work down to production so that only the newer work is transferred/updated in production without the need to overwrite content?

Before you push the staging to production, you use the WordPress Import/Export tool under Tools to export the live site data. Once they've been synced, you import the data from the previous site.

Thanks for the information @MrVapor !

Having never done this, I have a few follow-up questions. Also, after reading on Wordpress Support it doesn't mention anything about form data. Even "All content" doesn't say anything about the data.

Is the data download implicit in this process?

Will the data captured from forms remain intact?  Fields like "Timestamp", "Last Updated"

What are the risks with this, if any?

    Hey there, @fernipascual

Forms are typically controlled by a form plugin of some sort. Most form plugins have an option in them somewhere to export your form information. I would look at the documentation for whatever form plugin you're using. You should find some info on what to do.
