Hi @Mark333,
Welcome to the Community!
Please review the article that @PL281 sent regarding the domain's timeline in the GoDaddy Account. On the final day when it's returned to the Registry, you'll see "You may be able to register the domain name again after the registry has released the domain name." The Registry for most domains will then hold them for around 30 days (at their discretion) before releasing them for public purchase. So it can be up to 75 days past a domain's expiration date before it can be registered as new.
