How long would be a domain transfer done when it is in status "Your transfer is pending"

Pending Transfers Out-> Domain Name -> Status: Your transfer is pending.

Recommended Action:
Please check back for updates.

I already acknowledge the transfer email, and accept the transfer. But now it  had been 2 days past, still pending in this status, so my question is how long would be a domain transfer done when it is in status "Your transfer is pending"? Any other way to speed up this progress?

@rfancn Domain transfer typically take 7 days to complete however, once you have approved the transfer at your gaining registrar you should be able to manually accept the transfer out and release the domain to your gaining registrar.

Hi @rfancn ,

Just to add a little more detail to this... it's not that it actually TAKES all 5 to 7 days to transfer most domains, it's just that the losing registrar is allowed 5 days to release the domain after code acceptance. After that, it transfers automatically. Add a day to refresh records on either end and there is the 7 days @justingodfrey referred to.

Actually, the 5 days serves a purpose. It allows the losing registrant / account holder a chance to realize it's happening and to object if it's something they do not want to happen. This minimizes hijacking, and is a good thing.

I hope that helps,

If the losing registrar accepts the transfer out, is the transfer then immediate? Or do I (as the receiving registrar) still have to wait the 5-7 days?

Hi @ivavei_17

If your registrar approves the transfer, they do not release it to GoDaddy. It is first given to the Registry for the domain (the folks in charge of moving it between registrars), then given to us. So we are not able to see or determine what actions another registrar is doing (your current registrar). We follow the time-frame set by the registry of 5-7 days (which the losing registrar can use in providing the domain). While their release COULD be immediate, we cannot dictate their policies and you may need to wait the 5-7 days.

If I transfer a domain to Godday, will the existing DNS and MX records be automatically transferred to GoDaddy?

Re: How long would be a domain transfer done when it is in status "Your transfer is pending&amp

Hey @TLH

So, does this mean that once the confirmation e-mail is approved, Go Daddy immediately does everything on their end to make this process go through, and we're just waiting on a third party? Is there any way to contact this Registry and maybe speed things along?

We decided to move one of our domains to make use of AWS' auto SSL Certificate renewal once ours expires instead of having to import new certificates annually. We just went through the transfer process and only now saw mentionings that transfers can take 7-10 days, but our current certificate will expire before then. Wondering if we need to get that new certificate via Go Daddy anyway, or if there is some way to ensure our transfer is processed quicker. Or, worse, if we've just made it so that we can't renew the certificate since Go Daddy already initiated the transfer.

Thanks

Hi @jacobjt. Welcome to GoDaddy Community! For transfers IN to GoDaddy, It's a bit like unlocking a door. When you enter the codes to authorize the transfer on GoDaddy's side, that opens the way for the registry to transfer the domain to us. As @TLH mentioned, it's more the registry taking action than GoDaddy.

As for speeding up the process, some registrars allow you to speed up the outgoing transfer process (GoDaddy included). This has to be done with the losing registrar if it can be done. If you are transferring a domain OUT of GoDaddy, you can see the instructions here to speed up the process. Keep in mind that this wouldn't affect any wait time that the gaining registrar may impose, but it generally makes the transfer happen much faster.

The renewal of SSL Certificates generally isn't tied to the renewal of a domain, except that you wouldn't likely be able to verify a domain if it was expired. Hope that helps.
