Redirecting not working as expected...

I use GoDaddy for my DNS. I used to host on GoDaddy as well. And i have bought SSL certificate from GoDaddy as well.

Recently, i moved my hosting out of GoDaddy. And on the new hosting server, i use LetsEncrypt SSL certificate. I have re-configured my DNS on GoDaddy to redirect to the new host server. Also, i have created a forward for "www" subdomain as well on GoDaddy.

Everything works great except for one URL combination:

https://www.myadjustimate.com is showing Error code: SSL_ERROR_BAD_CERT_DOMAIN on Firefox.

The following URLs are redirecting just fine:

myadjustimate.com
http://myadjustimate.com
www.myadjustimate.com
http://www.myadjustimate.com
https://www.myadjustimate.com
https://myadjustimate.com

The only problematic URL is https://www.myadjustimate.com

If https://myadjustimate.com isn't having any issues re-directing, then why should https://www.myadjustimate.com show SSL_ERROR_BAD_CERT_DOMAIN?

I believe this is a GoDaddy side issue rather than hosting site SSL configuration issue. Please shed some light on this. I called the customer support but could not get adequate support.

Thanks.

Hi @MyAdjustiMate. Thanks for being part of GoDaddy Community! There are a couple of problems with what you've outlined here. The main thing that you'll need to do if you want to have consistent HTTPS connections when using your domain is to perform all redirects on the hosting server you're using. You wouldn't want to use our domain forwarding for any of these. Essentially, when you add forwarding, it changes the IP address your domain or subdomain points to. Since your SSL Certificate would be installed at the IP address your website resides on, our forwarding would essentially break this. Also, our forwarding does not currently work when the incoming URL uses the HTTPS protocol, regardless of whether or not the destination URL has a certificate. You can find more information about that on this thread

With the above in mind, you'll want to connect with your hosting provider to find out what type of redirects they allow. If you're on Linux, the most common way to do this is via a .htaccess redirect.

I hope this helps.

Hi Jesse,

I bought (www.fitnesslegacy.net) domain from Godaddy a couple years back, and I had it linked as a sub-domain to (www.myfitnesslegacy.net) which I bought via Wix.com a little before that. They used to both work just fine and automatically re-direct whoever searches for (www.fitnesslegacy.net) to (www.myfitnesslegacy.net), but now it ain't working for some reason and it can only find (www.myfitnesslegacy.net)... Can you help me out please? I'm supposed to launch my business and start a marketing campaign due tomorrow but now I can't do so until this problem is fixed.

Looking forward to your reply.

Hi @fitnessguy411. Welcome to GoDaddy Community! When I visit both fitnesslegacy.net and www.fitnesslegacy.net, I'm redirected to www.myfitnesslegacy.net. Keep in mind that (as with above) if you try to visit https://fitnesslegacy.net or its www variant, that will not work. Our forwarding service does not resolve HTTPS requests and never has. I know sometimes browsers will cache the HTTPS URL and will try to use it any time you try to visit the site. Perhaps that's what's happening in your case?

Hi Jesse,

Thank you for your reply.

Actually typing www.fitnesslegacy.net or http://fitnesslegacy.net or any other variation in the search bar ain’t loading unfortunately for some reason, and it’s not redirecting me to www.myfitnesslegacy.net like it used to... I sent the link www.fitnesslegacy.net to many of my friends, as well as I have tried opening it from several laptops and other phones, and it’s still not connecting...

Please advise since I’m kinda panicking as all my marketing campaign has www.fitnesslegacy.net not www.myfitnesslegacy.net in them!

Looking forward to your reply, regards.

Hi @fitnessguy411 - I'm not sure why this would be happening for you or your friends. When I test the website using external tools, it isn't producing any connection errors. See below:

Http results for http://fitnesslegacy.net

Http results for http://www.fitnesslegacy.net

If you're still seeing an issue, I'd suggest first clearing your browser's cache and cookies. If that doesn't help, then try using a cacheless browsing window (FireFox private window, Chrome incognito, etc.), or an entirely different browser. If that also doesn't work, you may want to try to connect with our customer care team so they can take a closer look.

Hi Jesse,

Can you please forward me any email I can contact for the technical and/or customer service team? I reside in Egypt and I’ve tried the ‘Chat Now’ button on GoDaddy’s website instead of having to call internationally, but for some reason the button is disabled... Same issue had happened before btw with the domain not connecting, I think a year back, but they fixed it right on the spot via ‘Chat Now’ but the button is unfortunately disabled like I’ve mentioned above...

I would rather send an email than make an international call.

Thanks again for your help and I’ll wait for your reply! Regards
