renew domain ahead of time & only 5 years?

Hello,

Can I renew my domain name ahead of it's expiration date?

I read that certain domains can only be registered for upto 5 years. What happens in 5 years do you loose your domain name? or can you keep renewing it for more than 5 years?

Re: renew domain ahead of time & only 5 years?

You can absolutely renew a domain ahead of the expiration date. It just tacks on that time to the end of what you already own. So let's say today is October 28, and your domain expires on January 3, 2017. If you pay today for 3 years, it will add the 3 years starting on January 3, 2017, so it won't expire until January 3, 2020.

does the price of your domain go up when it's time to renew or does the cost stay the same as it was when you signed up?

Well depends on the domains name gTLD ( .com, .net , .org, etc...) most domain names you can renew up to ten years! This may be a very good idea since we all know that prices go up and you will be locking in the price. If you want to transfer your domain name to or from GoDaddy you do not lose any time.
