I currently have my website setup to a custom subdmain (alessandro.ronc.one). Now I would like for the www subdmain (ie www.ronc.one) and the naked domain (ie ronc.one) to point to alessandro.ronc.one . How can I do that? I have created a CNAME with host "www" that points to "alessandro.ronc.one" but it does not seem to be working.
For the record, my "alessandro" subdomain points to "alecive.github.io".
Do you want to keep the site on the existing subdomain? If so change the www CNAME back to @ and then set up forwarding with 301, no masking and automatically update DNS.
Thanks for the help @Nate . What I have resorted to now is to forward both the main domain (ronc.one) and the www subdomain to alessandro.ronc.one (forward with 301 and no masking). I have deleted the www CNAME altogether.
What are you saying is to keep the main domain forwarding as-is, delete the www subdomain forwarding and add a www CNAME that points to @ . Is that correct?
Last question: I would also like www.alessandro.ronc.one to point to alessandro.ronc.one (so the www sub-subdomain to point to its subdomain). How should I do it? With a CNAME or a forwarding?
The regular domain forwarding also includes www if the CNAME is pointing to @ but it'd essentially do the same thing as setting www up as a forwarded sub-domain. One way or the other is fine.
Sub-domains don't get the www by default but you could also set up www.subdomain as a forwarded subdomain.
Ok I've setup the regular domain forwarding and the www CNAME pointing to @. Now my only remaining problem is that I have set up the www.alessandro subdomain to forward to https://alessandro.ronc.one but for some strange reason it is forwarding to https://alessandro.ronc.one/alessandro (which obviously gives a 404). Do you know what might be the reason for this?
My www.alessandro subdomain forwarding is pointing to https://alessandro.ronc.one .
