301 Redirect by Domain Manager: Certificate Name Mismatch Error

I did a 301 redirect for one of my sites via GoDaddy’s ‘Domain Manager’.

When I typed my old domain into a browser, the redirect worked fine.

But when I tried to visit my site by clicking a link pointing to the old URL, an error message popped up.

It said “NET::ERR_CERT_COMMON_NAME_INVALID”, “The connection is not private”, or “Your connection is not private”, ect., depending on what browser you are using.

Opening the certificate I found that the SSL certificate was issued to “” instead of my own domain names. This must be due to the use of GoDaddy’s Domain Manager for the 301 redirect.

The error is preventing visitors from accessing my site!!

What can I do to correct that?

The GoDaddy DNS forwarding service does not include SSL - so if you had an SSL on the previous domain and hence the links in the search engines have it the links are going to be broken.

The only work around I have found for this is to use CloudFlare's Free DNS service which includes the ssl redirection
