Just SetUp A WP Site; However, I want domain.com to load to www.domain.com ...

This is simple.  Boss guy bought domain, asked me to set it up using Wordpress.

Hosting is with GoDaddy, registration elsewhere, but I got it up and running.

However, he wants any directo urls like http://domain.com to load up as http://www.domain.com

Is there a WordPress Plugin or setting that I'm missing here?

Thank you!

The www is actually just a subdomain of your main domain @mhuss. Typically if you wanted the www to be displayed in the address bar you would just create a subdomain (www) and point it to your @ record with your @ being pointed to your hosting IP. Since you mentioned that the domain is not with GoDaddy I can't give you the precise directions on how to create your www subdomain but I can tell you that it is a domain issue and not a WordPress issue. Hope that helps?

Hi rd,

I sort of understand what you are saying.  I think once I do it, I'll understand.  Is there a tutorial I can look at?  Using Namecheap as registrar, GoDaddy for hosting...

TY!

I'm not as familiar with other platforms as I am with GoDaddy @mhuss but it shouldn't be that different? It really comes down to the hosting plan you have. Here is a chart on Change nameservers for my domains that might help? Here is also some more information courtesy of @JMPepper Setting WWW For A Subdomain. Hope that makes it a bit less confusing? Please come back and let us know how it all turns out.

Hi @mhuss,

@rd is on the mark with the DNS settings.  Also, check your Settings>General>Site URL in the WP dashboard.  Because you want WP to operate off of the www alias, setting it here will keep WP from referring back to the mydomain.com.

Hope this helps,

James

Re: Just SetUp A WP Site; However, I want domain.com to load to www.domain.com ...

@mhuss Here is a help artical for namecheap on redirecting from one domain to another. https://www.namecheap.com/support/knowledgebase/article.aspx/385/77/how-do-i-setup-url-forwarding-fo... After re directing your domain.com to www.domain.com make sure you point the www record to your Godaddy IP Address. Another option would be to manage the redirect fro godaddy https://www.godaddy.com/help/redirect-urls-with-your-hosting-account-5120 and pointing both domain.com and www.domain.com to hour Godaddy IP.

Re: Just SetUp A WP Site; However, I want domain.com to load to www.domain.com ...

Hi guys,

So, let me explain.  I deal with SEO aspect of things so the idea was to set up a WP site as follows:

http://www.mydomain.com instead of http://mydomain.com

I setup WP did all that and realized I haven't set it up as www (subdomain).  Now I need to accomplish this.  I'd like to know the easiest way possible.

1. @rd the article you pointed mentions these steps:

"5. Select URL Redirect Record from the drop-down menu for Type, put @ (your bare domain, e.g.,yourdomain.tld) for Host and enter the URL you would like to redirect to into the Value line:

6. Click on the Save All Changes button.

To redirect www.yourdomain.tld or any subdomain such as blog.yourdomain.tld to a URL, enter www orblog for Host accordingly:"

So would my DNS record have

URL Redirect Record         mydomain.com          www.mydomain.com (Type|Host|Value)

I am definitely feeling overwhelmed here and haven't deal with DNS changes like these.  I just need to know the easiest way to do this and to execute it without breaking my site.  An article for a newbie would be great.  (I appreciate all the help!)

Re: Just SetUp A WP Site; However, I want domain.com to load to www.domain.com ...

@mhuss since your domain is with Namecheap the instructions in the post from @oslinux is probably the best? If you look at the image for Step 7 you will see the exact setup you need. If those instructions don't work for you then I'd get in touch with Namecheap and have them guide you through it. No need to feel overwhelmed though. Happy domaining!
