    MySQL Remote Access 3306 WHM / CPanel Dedicated Server

    (1) Is it discouraged to connect to a dedicated server using the MySQL Remote Access options provided by WHM / CPanel. If it is, how is that less secure than connecting to FTP for example.

    (2) Besides the WHM and CPanel option settings (add an IP address) what needs to be done to get access? There seems to be other security features such as Host Access Control, Security Advisor (recommendations), or listening ports that need to be adjusted. And how to do it safely.

    (3) Anyone successfully connect using Netbeans or a similar tool?

    Thank you!

    Re: MySQL Remote Access 3306 WHM / CPanel Dedicated Server

    @JohnN,

    By default, MySQL uses unencrypted connections between the client and the server. This means that someone with access to the network could watch all your traffic and look at the data being sent or received. They could even change the data while it is in transit between client and server.

    .....and using FTP-SSL  or SFTP, yes, FTP sounds to me the better option, but do what you feel right. More info on FTP-SSL here:
