PHP Files listing as a text file

I tried adding the "AddType application/x-httpd-php53 .php" into the .htaccess file, and it still wont run .php files, It will only show the code. What can I do to get .php files working?

What type of hosting are you using?

You shouldn't need to add any special handlers or types to get PHP working, it's already configured on any shared hosting plan.
