Emails sent via GoDaddy SMTP server take over 15 minutes to reach Gmail accounts or never received

I am using PHPMailer (although happy to use any other library or method to solve my problem)

I currently have following code (see below)

The issue is that whenever an email is sent to a Gmail account it either takes 15 minutes to arrive or it is never delivered.

Has anyone experienced anything like that?

Are there any recommendations I can use to help solve this strange issue?

try {
//Server settings
$mail->SMTPDebug = SMTP::DEBUG_OFF;
$mail->isSMTP();
$mail->Host = "n3plcpnl0016.prod.ams3.secureserver.net"; // Set the SMTP server to send through
$mail->SMTPAuth = true; // Enable SMTP authentication
$mail->Username = $from; // SMTP username - an email on GoDaddy
$mail->Password = $pwd; // SMTP password
$mail->SMTPSecure = PHPMailer::ENCRYPTION_SMTPS; // which resolves to "ssl";
$mail->Port = 465

//Recipients
$mail->setFrom($from, $from_name);
$mail->addAddress($to, $to_name); // Add a recipient

$mail->Subject = $subject;

$mail->MsgHTML($contents);

$mail->send();
return true;
} catch (Exception $e) {
die ("Message could not be sent.");
}

The only  option is using a service like Amazon SES or SendGrid which have API services available.

I've seen this myself across various GoDaddy hosting platforms

1) I can tell you it usually resolves on it's own

2) Sometimes it is due to a relay server being blacklisted (not the case here)

3) Remember email through GoDaddy servers are relayed so there maybe a slight delay at any given point depending on traffic volume

This is refreshing to know I am not the only one who is facing this issue.

The trouble is - I've been observing this for several months and while I can confirm that some emails do get delivered quickly some other ones take unpredictable time to send and I never know which ones are delayed.

Are there any alternative SMTP servers to the one I'm using?
