Why is GoDaddy not supporting the free Lets Encrypt SSL certificate option which most good hosts seem to be doing? Is it just to make more money by selling a certificate at $69 a year?

Even specialist WordPress hosting such as WPEngine offer this free option so why not Godadddy?????

A lot of hosts selling their own certificates are very unlikely going to ever support Let's Encrypt.

GoDaddy needs to adopt the same options that make it not only available but easy for users to install Let's Encrypt certs. Expensive paid SSL certs for small sites and blogs are a thing of the past I realize it is a high margin product, but the writing is on the wall. The lack of this option is a non-starter for me ordering WP Hosting (another high margin product) through Godaddy for me or clients.

Failure to embrace Let's Encrypt will end up costing GoDaddy more in lost web hosting revenues than the drop in premium SSL certs. Offer both options, with auto-renewing Let's Encrypt, and spend your efforts upselling the advantages of a premium cert for those that want it.

One can use Let's Encrypt SSL certificates with a Cpanel hosting service on GoDaddy. However, it was explained to me that you need to renew and reload the certificate every 3 months.

The automatic renewal of Let's Encrypt is apparently not supported.

You may be able to ask GDTechSupp to activate AutoSSL on your CPanel hosting.

However, GD will not parse the SSL cert with the correct ID as they only do this for GD issued certs.

Yesterday a Sales Rep from Go Daddy called because he wanted to know why I didn't have SSL's for my websites w/them - When I asked what he was talking about he condescendingly replied how Google changed this in Jan 2017 and that my website ranking has since been put to the bottom of this list...

When I asked him to email me - because I'm running a business and didn't have time to talk to him about something I was unfamiliar w/he was even more of an A$$hat - and passively aggressively told me how it was such a pleasure talking w/me today -

I have been researching ever since - and NO he never sent me an email...There is nothing I hate more than salespeople - I don't understand calling a business and expecting to be able to just talk about obscure things like websites - google listings - insurance - 'investigations' - etc, and then treating me like crap when I say I'm not interested...anyways - needed to get that off my chest - as I'm so frustrated w/Go Daddy's approach - AND now that I have done the research and found I cannot use Lets' Encrypt - and have no other option besides purchasing thru Go Daddy...at $60.00 per year and $75 at renewal - I'm beyond frustrated -

We have a small business w/only 6 pages - and do not sell online...I do have a contact form though - This whole thing is ridiculous - I understand Google wanting people to be 'safe' online - but it shouldn't affect our ranking - unless they were offering 'free' SSL's that could be used on all sites...

In addition, I run a non-profit website w/the extra WordPress account on our Go Daddy account - and now we have to come up w/60.00 for that account as well (its completely different domains)

We've been w/go daddy for years - and I've been considering changing - I think this is the final push I needed...Hopefully, others will as well so Go Daddy will reconsider - or at least offer better prices - especially for non-profits - We support Veterans and Their Families - every time someone else has there hand out it is less I can put in a Vets' hand...

Good to know I'm not the only one frustrated with this whole SSL business brought on - or should I say, 'aggressively pushed - by Google and its quest to dominate the browser world and all things Internet...

I get that folks are trying to make the Internet a safer place to do business, but for crying out loud do they have to make it so [insert your favorite expletive here] expensive that the only ones that can 'play' are those companies with deep deep pockets who can afford the yearly cost of an SSL certificate...?

On top of that frustration is the less-than-user-friendly install process of getting a certificate to work no matter where it was purchased from or given freely [e.g. 'Let's Encrypt']...!

Now that Google 'the Internet Enforcer' is demanding we all purchase high priced certificates just so the 'https' is in front of a domain name, all us 'little guys' with small sites - be they 'mom and pop' e-commerce sites or 'vanity' sites - will all start falling by the wayside... Sad... Really sad...
