Big news from PayPal® today. They announced a new SDK for their PayPal Here service. And we’re excited to announce that because of this new SDK, we’ve partnered with PayPal to implement PayPal Here in our GoDaddy Get Paid application.
As we all know, there are millions of small businesses who don’t yet accept credit cards but want to. This partnership — this service — will help them grow their customer base, increase revenue, and save time.
What’s PayPal Here?
For those unfamiliar with it, PayPal Here is an easy way for small business owners to get paid. Especially the freelancers, contractors, and artists of the world. It’s a credit card reader for your smartphone. Are you a piano teacher? Crafter? Plumber? Photographer? PayPal Here makes it easy for your clients to pay you as soon as you take care of business. It doesn’t have to be cash-only. No more checks to deposit at the bank. Plug in the device to your phone, swipe the card. Get paid. It makes the business of doing business easier. That’s why we love it.
And an SDK? What is that?
Good question. The SDK is the cool part. If you’re a developer you know what I mean. For everyone else, it literally stands for “Software Development Kit.” That’s a fancy way of saying a kit that “makes it really easy for other apps and services to connect to PayPal.” That’s a mouthful, right? SDK is so much easier. What types of PayPal features can other apps access? From their blog post:
“This includes the ability to interact with credit card readers so customers can easily swipe their card at the merchant’s point-of-sale (POS), streamline payments, manage CRM and inventory, create and maintain invoices, calculate totals, discounts and taxes, and the ability to provide a more personalized and engaging customer experience at checkout.”
Releasing this SDK sends a strong message to other app developers: PayPal believes in partnering with others to make it easier for small business owners to get paid. So that’s what we did. We partnered with PayPal to implement the new PayPal Here SDK and added it to our GoDaddy Get Paid application.
While we didn’t work directly on SDK development, we were fortunate to be early partners and worked closely with the PayPal Here team. In the end, we think GoDaddy Get Paid is a remarkable service that helps businesses track their time and mileage, create proposals, send receipts and process payments. PayPal Here is a welcome addition.
