I can't send text messages with my SmartLine toll-free number
There’s an industry-wide effort to reduce text message spam and fraudulent activity. New restrictions will affect your ability to send SMS and MMS messages through SmartLine.
Major U.S. mobile carriers, including AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon, have introduced a new requirement for businesses that use toll-free numbers that are virtual numbers, such as with SmartLine, to send text messages to U.S. cellular numbers. These businesses must register with a third-party entity, so the mobile carriers understand who is sending messages and what messages are being sent on their network.
How does this impact my messages with SmartLine?
Starting November 8, 2023, the mobile carriers have been blocking all outbound text messages from unregistered toll-free numbers. You won’t be able to send text messages until you register your business and are approved. This will not impact your ability to keep making calls, receiving calls and receiving text messages with SmartLine.
How can I register my business?
You can register directly through GoDaddy’s online form. After you’ve submitted your registration, it will take up to 15 business days to review and respond with results. During this time, you might be able to send texts, but these may be subject to blocking until your registration is approved.
My customer is sending me urgent messages; how can I respond?
While your outbound messages are blocked, you can still make outbound calls or use other methods of communication, such as email.
