Troubleshoot: Text messages

Learn more about the solutions to the issues you may encounter with the text messaging feature of SmartLine.

Before troubleshooting your issue, be sure to get the latest version of the SmartLine app. Your issue may have been already been fixed in a recent update.

    Re-Link your smartphone

    You should make sure that your phone is correctly linked to your SmartLine service.

    1. On the smartphone you would like to use, log out of the SmartLine app.
    2. Log back into SmartLine.
    3. Verify your mobile number, then tap Confirm.
    4. You can continue through the following tour or just tap Skip to return to your message history.

    Check your do not disturb settings

    If Do Not Disturb is on, you will not receive any calls.

    1. In the SmartLine app, go to Settings.
    2. Set Do Not Disturb to the off position.

    Remove your SmartLine number from your phone's blocked list

    Your phone may be set to block all texts from your SmartLine number. You will remove your SmartLine number from the blocked numbers list to receive texts. The instruction below will show you how to unblock numbers from your phone's native Phone and Settings apps, not the SmartLine app.

    1. Launch the Settings app of your phone.
    2. Go to Phone > Blocked Contacts.
    3. Tap Edit.
    4. Press the red button next to the number you want to unblock.
    5. Tap Unblock to remove the number from the list.

    The directions below may vary slightly based on your device and your version of the Android software.

    1. Launch the Phone app.
    2. Tap the menu button (three vertical dots).
    3. Select Settings > Blocked Numbers.
    4. Press the X button next to the number you want to unblock.
    5. Tap Unblock to remove the number from the list.

    Check to see if you have cell service

    SmartLine uses your cell service to send texts. Please contact your cell provider if you are not getting a cellular signal.

    Your SmartLine service has expired

    • If you purchased your service from GoDaddy.com, login to your account and click Options next to SmartLine to see your renewal options.
    • If you purchased your service through an app store, you will need to renew your subscription through the app store. See View or Cancel my in-app purchase for more information.

    Issues sending texts

    The phone number you're texting can't accept text messages

    If you're noticing that you are unable to send texts to a specific phone number, it's possible that the phone number is connected to a landline or VOIP (Voice over IP) phone that does not accept sms messaging.

    The phone number is outside the United States

    At this time, SmartLine can only send messages to U.S. phone numbers that support text messaging.

    Can't send photos

    If you have a toll free number, you will not be able send any photo or video messages. If you have a local number, the issue may be related to another issue listed below.

    Your cell phone number is listed on your SmartLine blocked List

    1. In the SmartLine app, go to Settings > Block Numbers.
      • On iPhone, swipe left to reveal the Unblock button.
      • On Android, tap the x button.
    2. Tap Unblock to remove the number from the list.

    Your SmartLine service has expired

    • If you purchased your service from GoDaddy.com, login to your account and click Options next to SmartLine to see your renewal options.
    • If you purchased your service through an app store, you will need to renew your subscription through the app store. see View or Cancel my in-app purchase for more information.
