They teach classes, build websites, and grind coffee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These are people like Candis Jones, who started <a href=\"https:\/\/thejonesmarket.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" data-eid=\"comms.microsites.venture-forward\/link.4f08dd0c8df25b7cd0a216425d296fb0\">The Jones Market<\/a>: a store that sells baby-safe, fashionable jewelry for mothers. Or Jaqi Wright and Nikki Howard, who created <a href=\"https:\/\/thefurloughcheesecake.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" data-eid=\"comms.microsites.venture-forward\/link.7ce040d92371b0cd6edf7f134dcd454a\">The Furlough Cheesecake<\/a> during the 2019 government shutdown. Nikki was making cheesecake because she loved to make people happy. It was so good, Jaqi convinced her to sell it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Aman Bhutani, Lori Lightfoot, Neela Mollgard, and Larry Irving all joined Steve Clemens to talk about ventures, why they matter, and what policy makers can do to foster them going forward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mayor Lori Lightfoot talked about her experience advocating for small businesses in Chicago. Even during a pandemic and social unrest, she found time to meet shop owners face-to-face.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Neela Mollgard is the executive director for <a href=\"https:\/\/mn.gov\/launchmn\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" data-eid=\"comms.microsites.venture-forward\/link.929d1893ec2ff13eac5a7c4047785ac2\">Launch Minnesota<\/a>. Together with her team, they&#8217;ve launched a hub-and-spoke network to connect would-be entrepreneurs with advisors and resources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For Larry Irving, who coined the term &#8220;digital divide,&#8221; universal high-speed internet access remains one of the best things we could do to support microbusiness growth throughout the U.S.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons is-layout-flex wp-block-buttons-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-button\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/themobilealliance\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" data-eid=\"comms.microsites.venture-forward\/link.04fb590182a98b99c66425cf0d829704\">Visit The Mobile Alliance for Global Good<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>GoDaddy&#8217;s CEO, Aman Bhutani, shared Venture Forward data to further illustrate the impact microbusinesses make on local economies throughout America.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the Great Recession, for example, GoDaddy found that cities with more microbusinesses per 100 people recovered faster than cities with fewer everyday entrepreneurs.
