Request a certificate for my DV Deluxe Automated SSL subscription
Follow these steps to request a certificate for your Domain Validation (DV) Deluxe Automated SSL subscription:
- Part 1: Attach a domain to your subscription.
- Part 2: Request a DV certificate for the domain.
- Part 3: Finish the installation.
Before you begin
Before you follow these steps to request and install a DV certificate, here are a couple of things to know:
- If both your domain and your hosting are with GoDaddy (and in the same account), no worries - our one-click install will get the job done.
- If both your domain and hosting are with GoDaddy, be sure you assign the domain to your hosting product (for example, to your Web Hosting account).
- If your domain and your hosting are with GoDaddy but in separate accounts, consider transferring the domain to the hosting account (not a requirement).
- If your domain or your hosting (or both) are somewhere besides GoDaddy, you may need root access to your hosting site, or you may need to understand how to add a TXT record or an HTML file to your site.
Attach a domain to your subscription
- Go to your Certificate Lifecycle Management page. You may be prompted to sign in.
- Select Subscriptions.
- For the DV subscription you want to use, select Attach Domain.
- Enter the domain name. As you type, a list of the domains in your account appears. You can continue to type the domain name, or select it from the list. When done, select Attach. In the Subscriptions list, the domain name appears in the Attached Domains list for that subscription.
Request a DV certificate for the domain
- Select Request Certificate. Any domains you attached to the DV subscription appear in the Domain Validation list.
- Below Domain Validation, select Select and then select Continue.
- If you have more than one domain eligible for the DV certificate, select the domain you want from the list. If there's only one eligible domain it's already selected for you.
- Select the check box for I agree to the Subscriber Agreement, and then select Continue.
- Select your hosting provider from the list:
- If your hosting is with us here at GoDaddy and if you already assigned the domain to one of your hosting products, select either cPanel for Web Hosting, or select VPS.
- If your hosting is with another company, select the company from the list.
- Select one of the installation methods for the certificate. Depending on where your domain and your hosting are located, you may see:
- One-Click SSL Installation: Select this method if your domain and hosting are in the same GoDaddy account. We'll take care of everything from here!
- Guided Workflow: Select this method if your domain and your hosting are at GoDaddy but in separate accounts, or if your site is hosted somewhere besides GoDaddy. We'll show you detailed instructions along the way. You need to have root access to your hosting site. If you choose this installation method, you'll also enable automatic re-installation 'in perpetuity'.
- Manual SSL Installation or Manual Certificate Installation: Select this method if your hosting is with another company. You install a downloadable file, and you're also responsible for re-installing the certificate at the end of each validity period.
From this point, follow the steps in one of the sections below:
- If you selected Guided Workflow, continue below with Finish installing my DV certificate using Guided Workflow.
- If you selected a manual installation and your domain is hosted at GoDaddy, continue below with Finish installing my DV certificate manually for a domain hosted at GoDaddy.
- If you selected a manual installation and your domain is not hosted at GoDaddy, continue below with Finish installing my DV certificate manually for a domain hosted elsewhere.
Finish installing my DV certificate using Guided Workflow
If you chose Guided Workflow we'll walk you through installing an ACME client, which helps automate the certificate installation process.
- Follow the prompts to register your ACME client and execute commands. When complete, you'll see a success message and your SSL is set up. That's it!
Note: If you see a message indicating the client is already installed, everything is still OK. Continue with the Guided Workflow.
Finish installing my DV certificate manually for a domain hosted at GoDaddy
- Read the message with details about the manual installation. When done, select Yes, I Agree. Or, select Cancel to choose a different installation method.
- If you've already got a certificate signing request (CSR), select Provide CSR. Or, if you do not have this already, select Generate CSR & Private Key, and then select Continue.
Note: If you want to provide your own CSR, see our article on how to generate a CSR on your server - but remember, you'll come back to this setup page to use that CSR.
- Follow the prompts to either provide your CSR and Private Key or to generate them.
- Below Now, install the SSL on your server select your server type and then select Download Zip File.
- Unzip the file and install the certificate files on your server. When you're done, select Confirm Installation. We'll check everything out and you'll see a success message when we're done.
Note: If there was a problem with the installation, select See the Instructions to return to the Manual SSL installation page to try again.
Finish installing my DV certificate manually for a domain hosted elsewhere
- Read the message with details about the manual installation. When done, select Yes, I Agree. Or, select Cancel to choose a different installation method.
- Select one of two verification methods to confirm you own the domain:
- Add a new TXT record in DNS: You'll set up a TXT record in DNS for your domain. Our system looks for that TXT record in the DNS to verify that you own the domain.
- Create an HTML file on my site: You'll add an HTML file to your site that includes a specific text string. Our system looks for that file on your site to verify that you own the domain.
- After you choose a verification method, follow the prompts to add the TXT record or HTML file. When complete, you'll see a success message and your domain ownership is verified.
