Request a certificate for my EV or OV Deluxe Automated SSL subscription

Follow these steps to request a certificate for your Extended Validation (EV) or Organization Validated (OV) Deluxe Automated SSL subscription:

  • Part 1: Attach a domain to your subscription.
  • Part 2: Request an EV or OV certificate for the domain.
  • Part 3: Finish the installation.

Attach a domain to your subscription

  1. Go to your Certificate Lifecycle Management page. You may be prompted to sign in.
  2. Select Subscriptions.
  3. For the EV or OV subscription you want to use, select Attach Domain.
  4. Enter the domain name. As you type, a list of the domains in your account appears. You can continue to type the domain name, or select it from the list. When done, select Attach. In the Subscriptions list, the domain name appears in the Attached Domains list for that subscription.

Request an EV or OV certificate for the domain

  1. Select Request Certificate. Any domains you attached to the EV or OV subscription appear in the list for each type.
  2. For the validation type you want (either Extended Validation or Organization Validation), select Select and then select Continue.
  3. Select the check box for I agree to the Subscriber Agreement, and then select Continue.
  4. In the EV (or OV) Certificate Validation page, enter the specified business information. When you're done, select Save and Continue.
  5. Select one of the installation methods for the certificate:
    • Guided Workflow: We strongly recommend you select this method. We'll show you detailed instructions along the way, and you need to have root access to your hosting site. If you choose this installation method, you'll also enable automatic re-installation: After your initial setup, the certificate automatically re-installs for future renewals using the industry-standard ACME protocol, with no more manual intervention needed for future renewals.
Note: For Deluxe Automated OV/EV SSLs, business re-validation is required for every re-install. All certificate re-installation remains automated.
    • Manual Certificate Installation: Select this method if your hosting is with another company. You install a downloadable file, and you're also responsible for re-installing the certificate at the end of each validity period.

From this point, follow the steps in one of the sections below:

Finish installing my EV or OV certificate using Guided Workflow

If you chose Guided Workflow we'll walk you through installing an ACME client, which helps automate the certificate installation process.

  • Follow the prompts to register your ACME client and execute commands. When complete, you'll see a success message and your SSL is set up. That's it!
Note: If you see a message indicating the client is already installed, everything is still OK. Continue with the Guided Workflow.

Finish installing my EV or OV certificate manually

  1. Read the instructions in the Manual installation Confirmation and then select Yes, I Agree.
  2. If you've already got a CSR, select Provide CSR. Or, if you do not have this already, select Generate CSR & Private Key. Then select Continue.
Note: If you want to provide your own CSR, see our article on how to generate a CSR on your server - but remember, you'll come back to this setup page to use that CSR.
  3. Follow the prompts to either provide your CSR and Private Key or to generate them. After you submit the CSR and Private Key, your certificate request is submitted and our team begins the verification process. Select Certificate Inventory to view the status of your request (shows as Pending at the start of the process.

Next steps

  • Our team will call to verify your organization and may request documentation. Please be ready to provide your business registration, proof of operational existence, and publicly listed phone number. Once domain control and organization verification are complete, your EV or OV SSL certificate will be issued within 3 business days.
  • For EV certificates only: We'll email you a Subscriber Agreement, which is required for Extended Validation and confirms your authorization and responsibilities for managing the EV SSL certificate. You must sign the agreement before your certificate is issued.
