Why is GoDaddy updating its Terms of Service?
We recently announced that we are updating our Universal Terms of Service ("Terms of Service") to better reflect our existing customer base and long-standing focus on supporting entrepreneurs, small businesses, and professionals. Our products and services have always been designed for business and professional use, and this update seeks to clarify that reality. Nothing about how you use our products or the way we support you is changing.
Do I need to take any action?
No action is required. By continuing to use your products and services after the effective date, you agree to the updated Terms of Service. If you’d like, you can review the new terms at any time before then.
Why am I receiving this notice?
You’re receiving this notice because we’re updating our Terms of Service. We want to be transparent and give customers advance notice of the change. The update reflects how our products and services are already intended for use today and does not change how you access, manage, or use your account.
What does "business use" mean?
"Business use" covers a wide range of professional and entrepreneurial activities — not just running a registered company. It includes anyone using our services in a business or professional capacity, such as:
- Entrepreneurs, small businesses, and sole traders
- Freelancers, consultants, and independent contractors
- Creators, influencers, and professionals building a personal brand
- Individuals managing an online presence for career growth or professional networking
- Anyone securing or managing a domain, website, email, or online identity for professional or business purposes
This also includes people who use our services to protect or manage their personal name, brand, or online reputation — for example through defensive domain registrations.
Our services are designed for business and professional use rather than private, personal, or household use. This clarification reflects how our customers already use our products today and does not change how your products work or how you manage your account.
Will this affect my existing products or services?
No. This update does not change:
- Your products or features
- Your pricing or billing
- Your renewal dates
- Your account settings or preferences
Everything will continue to work as it does today.
Will pricing, renewals, or billing change?
No. This update relates only to our legal terms. Your pricing, renewals, and billing arrangements remain exactly the same.
Will my cancellation/refund rights change?
Our refund terms have been updated to confirm that region-specific consumer cooling-off periods will not be applicable to our business customers. This does not change how you request a refund or cancellation today, and our support team is always available if you have questions.
Does this change how GoDaddy uses or protects my data?
No. We remain committed to protecting customer data and maintaining clear disclosures and transparent practices.
Does this mean GoDaddy is no longer for entrepreneurs or individuals?
Not at all. Entrepreneurs remain at the heart of who we serve. This update sharpens our focus on entrepreneurs, small businesses, and professionals by aligning our terms and communications with how our customers already use our products.
Is anything changing around how disputes are handled?
We’ve updated our Terms of Service to clarify and improve how issues are resolved if something goes wrong. The updates are designed to:
- Encourage resolving concerns informally first, so most issues can be addressed quickly without formal proceedings
- Provide clearer steps if a formal dispute resolution process is needed
- Update how customers can opt out of certain dispute resolution provisions
- Clarify which laws apply if a dispute arises
- For U.S. customers, update and clarify the rules and procedures that apply to arbitration
These changes are intended to make the process clearer, more consistent, and easier to understand. They don’t affect your day-to-day use of our products, and we remain committed to transparency, fairness, and resolving issues in good faith.
Why are there specific updates for customers in Germany?
We're making some updates to the terms that apply specifically to customers in Germany to better align them with our Universal Terms of Service used across other markets. These changes help create greater consistency in how our terms work and are applied globally.
What happens if I don’t agree with the new Terms of Service?
If you choose not to continue under the new terms, you may cancel your product before its next renewal.
We’d be sorry to see you go, and we’re always here to help if you have questions or concerns about the update.
Where can I read the updated Terms of Service?
You can review the updated Terms of Service at any time.
- You can also see the previous Terms of Service here.
Will customer support or service levels change?
No. You’ll continue to receive the same level of customer support and service you do today.
