About .ie Domains

IE Registry Limited is the sponsor and backend provider for the country-code top-level domain name (ccTLD) .ie extensions that represent Ireland.

Who can register .ie domains?

Individuals and entities that meet Ireland presence requirements can apply to register .ie domain names on a first-come, first-served basis.

  • Individuals with residency in Ireland.
  • Foreign Individuals providing evidence of their relocation to Ireland.
  • Companies with residency in Ireland.
  • Foreign Companies with proof of their relationship with Ireland.
    • Providing invoices from an Irish Company.
    • Providing marketing materials aimed at the Irish Market.
    • Providing solicitor or accoutant's letter confirming your current or future trade with Ireland.
    • Providing a Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland or EU Community registered trademark.

You may have to provide information or documentation to prove your eligibility. You will receive an email with detailed instructions on uploading required documents for verification.

Registration restrictions

When registering a .ie domain, you must follow specific requirements. p

  • Must Use:1-63 characters
  • Can Use:Letters (a-z characters), numbers (0-9) and hyphens (except in the 1st or last characters of the domain name
  • Cannot Use: Special Characters (e.g,& and #)
  • IDN:Not supported

Features

  • Registration length: 1-10 years
  • Renewal length: 1-10 years
    • If you have auto-renew enabled, we’ll attempt to charge the associated payment method and renew your .ie domain on its expiration date.
    • If auto-renew fails or isn't enabled at all, we’ll park your .ie domain. A parked domain will display a temporary web page when the domain name is entered in a web browser.
    • If the domain isn't manually renewed within 40 days following expiration, we cancel it and remove it from your account.
  • Backorders: Not supported
  • Transfers to GoDaddy: Not supported
  • Transfers away from GoDaddy: Supported
  • Transfers to another GoDaddy account: Not supported
  • Domain Privacy: Not supported
  • Domain Protection: Supported
  • CashParking: Supported
  • Contact Updates: Supported (except for registrant/owner)
