An SSL certificate encrypts traffic coming from or going to visitors through your website, like email addresses or credit card information. Encrypted traffic can't be seen by anyone besides you and the customer who sent it. When your site has an SSL certificate, cybercriminals won't be able to steal your customers' personal information, and visitors to your site can feel safer knowing their information is protected.

What if I don't have an SSL certificate?

If you don't have an SSL certificate, browsers will display a warning that your site cannot be trusted - and that can stop people from visiting your site. Laws that protect personal information require SSL encryption, as do most ecommerce payment companies.

How do I get an SSL certificate?

Some GoDaddy products come with an integrated SSL certificate - we install it for you and take care of setup. For other products, you may need to purchase an SSL certificate separately and install it yourself. See the list of products below for more details:

• WordPress and other content management systems: You can purchase our managed SSL Service and we'll set up, install, and manage the certificate for you. You can also purchase an SSL separately and install it yourself, which can be challenging.
• Virtual Private Servers (VPS): These servers come with an integrated SSL for the first year. After that period, you need to purchase an SSL separately and install it yourself.
