Expired domain transfer

Hello,

We have an expired domain that we want to transfer away from Godaddy, but the ownership protection is preventing us to do it.

When we tried to lower the protection level, it says that we are at the lowest level already but still indicates 'Full Protection' after this.

We followed the guide from Godaddy to remove the Ownership protection but it doesn't give any information about this.

Would it be possible to transfer this domain?

Thanks in advance

Hi @GG4,

Welcome to the Community!

The amount of time since expiration will determine whether or not you can transfer the domain out of your account. However, part of the Ownership Protection applied to the domain, prevents it from being removed from the account after the standard 30 days, extending it to 90 days before return to the Registry (doing it's job as a Protection feature). If you have this higher level of protection, you'll need to renew the domain in order to remove it. After renewal, you can cancel the Protection within 30 days and be refunded for that portion (not the domain).

You are able to direct a domain to a remote host without transferring it out of GoDaddy. If you decide to transfer, GoDaddy advises waiting 45 days after your renewal, as the paid year may be dropped at the Registry during transfer.
