What is pre-registration for gTLD extensions?
Pre-registration is an option to apply for registration of new gTLD (generic top-level) extensions offered by GoDaddy before they are publicly available to increase your chance of successful registration. Submitting a pre-registration application isn’t a completed registration or a guarantee that you'll receive the domain. Phases and dates will vary for each domain extension.

What are the common launch phases for a new gTLD extension?
A new gTLD extension may have one or more registration phase, including general availability. Phases, dates and rules vary for each gTLD extension and not all extensions will participate in every phase.
- Sunrise: A period for qualifying trademark holders to register domains that match their trademark rights. The registry sets the eligibility rules for this phase.
- Early Access: A pre-registration phase before general availability which may include standard pre-registration and/or priority pre-registration. Additional fees may apply and timing, fees and rules vary by gTLD extension.
- General Availability (GA): The phase when domain registration opens more broadly. Available domains are generally registered on a first-come, first-served basis, subject to registry requirements and reservations.
What's the difference between standard pre-registration and priority pre-registration?
Pre-registration options may be available during an Early Access phase, depending on the gTLD extension. Both options require potential registrants to submit an application, with associated fees, and if there are multiple applications for a single domain, it will go to auction.
- Standard pre-registration: GoDaddy submits your application when general availability begins.
- Priority pre-registration: GoDaddy submits your application at the beginning of your chosen phase. Multiple phases are usually available and each phase will have its own date and associated fee, shown during checkout.
Does pre-registration guarantee that I’ll get the domain?
No. The domain may be unavailable, reserved, or subject to registry requirements.
What happens if more than one person requests the same domain?
The domain may go to auction if multiple customers apply for the same domain during a phase. The specific process can vary by gTLD extension and phase. You’ll be notified if an auction is needed.
What happens if I don’t get the domain?
Any refund depends on the pre-registration option and the terms shown during checkout. In most cases, if you are not awarded the domain, the application fee will be refunded. Review our refund policy for additional information.
Are there any additional fees for pre-registration?
It depends on the pre-registration phase you're using. Every pre-registration includes the standard registration fee, just like general availability, but additional fees are based on the pre-registration phase and dates. All fees are shown during checkout.
