Timeline for GoDaddy Auctions® Expired Domains

Domains registered with GoDaddy are listed as Expired Domains on GoDaddy Auctions® 26 days after they expire. In some situations, the current domain registrant can still renew their domain. Check out more options for bidding on domains through GoDaddy Auctions®.

Note: Not all domains are eligible for GoDaddy Auctions® and some domains do not follow the standard expiration timeline.

Expired auctions timeline

  • Day of expiration: We'll attempt to auto-renew the domain in the current registrant's account or they can manually renew it for the standard renewal price.
  • Day after expiration - 26 days after expiration: The standard expiration timeline is in effect.
  • 26 - 29 days after expiration: Domain is listed as an Expired Domain on GoDaddy Auctions® for 10 days. The current registrant can still manually renew the domain, regardless of whether there's an active bid on the domain.
  • 30 - 36 days after expiration: Domain is still listed as an Expired Domain on GoDaddy Auctions®, but the current registrant cannot manually renew the domain if there's an active bid on the domain.
  • 37 days after expiration: If no ones has won the domain, it's moved to GoDaddy Auctions® Final Closeout for 5 days. The current registrant can still manually renew the domain until it's purchased by someone else.
  • 43 days after expiration: All auctions end. If there was a winning bid, the winner is assigned as the registrant. If there was no winning bid, the domain is released back to the registry.
Note: Payment must be made within 48 hours of winning an expired domain through GoDaddy Auctions®. The domain will typically be transferred to the winning account within 15 days of receiving payment.
