New Nameservers (Or DNS?) Won’t Propagate

Feeling caught in an endless loop of nameservers hell. I went into my Godaddy Domain Manager and updated the nameservers of 1 domain to that of my website hosting company. All the information is accurate. But it’s been nearly 72 hours now and it still hasn’t propagated.

My hosting company says the problem is on Godaddy’s side. And Godaddy says it can’t be with them; they can’t even see the DNS records to check because they’re no longer tied to Godaddy’s nameservers. They literally can’t see them.

Any idea what might be going wrong? I’ve already reset the nameservers back to Godaddy’s default and started the process all over again. So at this point this has gone on for days. All tips welcome ... and desperately needed.

That does not make sense  - to the best of my knowledge flushing the DNS would only update things if GoDaddy were hosting the DNS.

I did some additional testing so...

1) https://manytools.org/network/query-dns-records-online/ using your domain and NS1.HEROIKDNS.COM

2) Using this site to see sites hosted on ns1.heroikdns.com https://securitytrails.com/list/ns/NS1.HEROIKDNS.COM I picked amethystlearn.com and checked it on the link in #1 and it returned results

3) https://dnschecker.org/#NS/accessyourdestiny.com you can easily see that only a few locations are reporting the correct servers and if you try to do an A record search it doesn't return any - even those that saw the correct Name Servers - this 100% says it is something on their end

I would recommend deleting your domain from their system and trying to re-add it

What is your domain and what are you trying to change the server to?

AccessyourDestiny.com

The nameservers I’ve changed it to are:
NS1.Heroikdns.com
NS2.Heroikdns.com
NS3.Heroikdns.com
NS4.Heroikdns.com

Thank you!

So many of the places are picking up the new name servers - also when I do a WHOIS it shows the new servers.

However if I do a dig / lookup I don't get any results. This to me suggests that the domain is not actually added to Heroik DNS servers - I would reach out to their support again and confirm the domain has been added to their servers.

May I ask, is it the normal course of event that they would have to do something to add it to their nameservers on their end?

I’ll definitely ask them. But when I told them before that Godaddy said the host would have to reconcile the name to their servers after Godaddy updated it, they said they normally don’t have to do anything.

Just want to make sure I know what I’m saying to them if they come back with the same thing.

@Sharond23

So - the normal course is that you would log in to your account on the 3rd party provider and add the domain to your account which "in theory" should add it to their servers - you should have a screen where you can manage the DNS  / add / adjust records.

A non techie explanation is that DNS are the traffic police of the internet - you can talk to which ever "officers" (DNS Servers) you want, however those officers need to be aware of your domain so they know how / where to direct the traffic to.

That makes perfect sense. Thank you!!

Ok, my hosting company is saying the problem isn’t with them. They’re saying: “It’s because Godaddy hasn’t propagated our nameservers yet.”

Could that be accurate? Would Godaddy be responsible for propagating the nameservers of the hosting company?

@Sharond23

Other than reporting the name servers (which is via the WHOIS) GoDaddy just pushes out which name servers to use - the actual data (zone file) is done by the hosting company / you within their system.

For example the domain maybe added to their servers but you still have to setup the A / CNAME / MX Records

So if you got https://mxtoolbox.com/SuperTool.aspx?action=whois%3aAccessyourDestiny.com&run=toolpage you can see the DNS is updated

If you goto https://manytools.org/network/query-dns-records-online/ and put in your domain with NS1.HEROIKDNS.COM for the server with A as the record type it returns no records

That means there is no Zone file configured

Thank you so much. I did indeed following the steps you sent. That's what brought me to this place now. But I think with what you gave me, I can go back to Heroic and get further along with the process.

Ok, here's what my hosting company said when I gave them your feedback: "Our Lead developer already checked our system and told me everything is working fine on our end....he was advising me to tell Godaddy to "flush the DNS and refresh it" ...maybe this is a DNS cache issue."

Does that sounds like a possibility to you? If it does, I'm happy to call Godaddy again. It's just the 4th time I would have done that. Wanna make sure it's reasonable before I waste any more time.

Thanks again. You have no idea how much I appreciate your insight.
