About .es domains

Every .es domain has the same requirements, restrictions, and supported features, such as registrations and renewals, transfers, and DNS.

Registrations and renewals

Anyone can register .es, .com.es, .nom.es, and .org.es domains on a first-come, first-served basis. The registrant must provide a government-issued ID number, such as a passport, company registration number, or VAT. The registrant and administrative contact details on the domain must match for individual registrants.

  • New registrations
    • Registration length: 1-5 years
    • Must use: 1-63 characters
    • Can use: Letters (a-z characters), numbers (0-9) and hyphens (except in the 3rd and 4th characters of the domain name)
    • Cannot use: Special characters (e.g., & or #)
    • IDNs (Internationalized Domain Names): Supported
  • Renewals
    • Renewal length: 1-5 years
    • You can manually renew your domain anytime before expiration. We'll attempt to auto-renew 26 days before expiration, and we'll park the domain after the first failed billing attempt. Redemption fees may be applied 12 days before expiration. Check out the standard expiration timeline for details on what happens after expiration.
