Fix email stuck in my outbox in Outlook

When Outlook can’t send an outgoing message, it’s moved to the outbox where it can be reviewed and stored for further troubleshooting.

Why is my email stuck in my outbox?

Your email might be stuck because:

  • Your network connection is intermittent or not connected.
  • Your email account settings are out-of-date or incorrect.
  • Your email message and/or attachment is too large.
  • Your email client isn't syncing to the email server.
  • Your email server has an outage or service issue.

How do I fix email stuck in my outbox?

Select the appropriate tab based on the email platform that you're using.

  1. Resend the email message from webmail.
  2. Reduce the size of your message or attachment. See your message limitations.
  3. Close your Outlook and restart your computer.
  4. Resend the email message or delete it from the outbox and compose the message again.
  5. Check your network connection. Unplug your router and allow your internet connection to be restored. Once restored, close and re-open Outlook.
  6. Verify your email address and password are correct.
  7. Switch from Offline mode to online mode in Outlook.
