Customize my website's theme

Step 2 of Build my first website with Websites + Marketing

Websites + Marketing uses themes (or templates) that let you refresh your website's appearance without disturbing your content. Each theme provides a complete website layout with coordinated fonts, colors and styles. Rather than designing everything from scratch, you select a theme you like, and then replace the sample content with your own text and images. You can also adjust the theme to align with your brand.

Watch the demonstration below, and then follow the steps further down to update your own theme.

Note: When you’re done editing your theme, come back to this page to continue setting up your website.

Change the theme completely

To switch to an entirely different theme, follow the steps for changing your website’s theme or template.

Make smaller adjustments to your theme

If you don’t want to change your theme completely, you can adjust the colors, fonts and buttons of your current theme.

  1. In the right panel of your website editor, select THEME.
  2. Select Color and follow the steps to adjust the color scheme for your template.
  3. Select Fonts and follow the steps to set the primary and secondary fonts for your template. (The larger primary font is used for headings and the smaller secondary font is used for body text.)
  4. Select Buttons and choose the primary and secondary button styles. (Primary buttons are used for the main actions you want customers to take, such as “Subscribe”. Secondary buttons are for supportive actions, such as “Learn more”.)

After choosing your layout, colors and fonts, you're ready to build your homepage.
