Professional Email is moving to Microsoft 365
We’re moving all Professional Email accounts to Microsoft 365 to provide improved features and security. We're here to help you during this transition, answer your questions and make sure your email service continues running smoothly. You’ll continue to receive 24/7 support from our GoDaddy Guides before, during and after your migration.
We’ll send you an email 30 days and 24 hours prior to your migration, along with another email once the migration is completed.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why is my Professional Email being migrated to Microsoft 365?
We’re retiring Professional Email to give you better features and security with Microsoft 365.
What do I need to do?
During the transition, check your Email & Office Dashboard for updates. If you have files saved in your Professional Email Drive please, download them before the transition.
After migration, update your client settings to Exchange if you’re using a mobile device or desktop email client.
What happens to my existing email?
We'll move all your Professional Email accounts, including their email, folders, contacts and calendars, to Microsoft 365. Forwards, aliases and catch-all email addresses will move as well (although new catch-all email addresses can’t be created once you’re moved to Microsoft 365). Continue using your email as usual.
What if I don’t want to migrate to Microsoft 365?
We know change can be difficult, but we recommend giving Microsoft 365 a try. It’s more secure and reliable, with more collaboration features. See our blog post about the 5 benefits of Microsoft email.
If you don't want to move to Microsoft 365, cancel your Professional Email credits at any time. Otherwise, your account will move automatically, and Professional Email credits will be removed 14 days after migration.
Which features will and won’t move to Microsoft 365?
Most of the features from Professional Email are available in Microsoft 365, but a few won't be moved.
What moves automatically: Email messages, contacts, calendars, forwards, aliases and existing catch-all addresses.
What doesn't move:
- Email signatures, templates, inbox rules and block/allow lists: These features are available in Microsoft 365, but you’ll need to recreate them after migration.
- Files in Professional Email Drive: Download your files before your transition.
Recreate them using the following steps:
Will my email address or password change?
No, your email address and password will stay the same. After your transition date, you'll see your new webmail called Outlook on the web. If you don’t remember your password, reset it from either the sign-in page or the Email & Office Dashboard.
Will the display name of my email accounts change?
Yes, your display name may change during migration. After your transition is complete, you can update your display name.
Will I need to update my phone or computer’s email client?
After your transition is complete, update your client settings to Exchange.
Do I need to update any DNS records?
If your DNS is hosted with GoDaddy, no action is needed; we'll handle the DNS changes. However, if your DNS is managed with a different provider, you’ll receive instructions in your email.
During the transition, it’s important to keep your MX records pointing to your Professional Email. If you update your MX records before your transition's complete, your mail will deliver to Microsoft 365 prematurely.
What if I’m missing email after migrating?
During the transition, we move your email and folders from the Professional Email servers into Microsoft 365. If you stored messages in your email client, you might see some messages missing in your account with Microsoft 365. If you’re missing email, follow our troubleshooting steps.
What happens to my Professional Email accounts after the transition?
After your transition date, all new messages are delivered to Microsoft 365. You can still access Professional Email webmail up to 14 days after the move, and then we’ll remove Professional Email from your account.
What happens to my Professional Email credits and renewal date?
Your Microsoft 365 credits will match your Professional Email credits in duration and price through your first renewal. For example, if you have Professional Email credits that are good for the next 14 months, you'll automatically get Microsoft 365 credits that are also good for the next 14 months at the same price.
In most cases, your renewal date won’t change. If you have a monthly subscription, we’ll automatically add time to your renewal date to make sure there aren’t billing issues during your transition.
