OpenClaw common tasks and fixes

Whether you're a new user or a seasoned professional, this resource provides answers to common OpenClaw tasks and set up fixes.

Common OpenClaw tasks

Here's a few examples of tasks you can ask your AI assistant to perform:

  • "Research the top 3 competitors to yourcoolexample and summarize what they offer."
  • "Summarize the key points from this report." and then upload or paste your report.
  • "Draft a follow-up email to a client after a sales call."
  • "What repetitive tasks in my business can you help automate?"

OpenClaw is not responding

A common fix is to check your configuration and available AI credits:

  1. Go to your GoDaddy product page.
  2. Scroll down, expand Servers and then select Manage next to the VPS Hosting you want to use.
  3. Select OpenClaw, select Config, select Environment and then under OPENAI_API_KEY, re-paste your API key.
  4. In the left-menu, select AI & Agents, select Agents and then under Model, ensure your primary is set to the correct model:
    {
      "primary": "openai/gpt-4.1"
    }

  5. In the top-right, select Save.
  6. Go to https://platform.openai.com/usage and ensure you have available credits.

Telegram bot is not responding

A common fix is to check and update your configuration:

  1. Go to your GoDaddy product page.
  2. Scroll down, expand Servers and then select Manage next to the VPS Hosting you want to use.
  3. Select OpenClaw, select Communication and then select Channels.
  4. Under Telegram Bot Token, ensure:
  5. In the top-right, select Save.

OpenClaw is using too many API tokens

OpenClaw can use more credits than a standard chat because each task involves multiple API calls. Configuring agents (like Heartbeat) can reduce usage:

  1. Go to your GoDaddy product page.
  2. Scroll down, expand Servers and then select Manage next to the VPS Hosting you want to use.
  3. Select OpenClaw, select AI & Agents, select Agents and then select Heartbeat.
  4. Select Active Hours, and then enter:
    • End: 22:00
    • Start: 08:00
  5. For Every, enter 1h.
  6. For Model, enter the name of your model (for example, openai/gpt-5).
  7. In the top-right, select Save.

After configuring Heartbeat, set an API rate limit. Learn how from your model's support site, like OpenAI.com.
