How my Websites + Marketing online store syncs to marketplaces
Step 1 of Expand my Websites + Marketing online store to marketplaces
When you connect your online store to Amazon, Etsy and other popular marketplaces, your catalog and listings are kept in sync. Make a change once, and it shows up everywhere.
How your online store and marketplaces are connected
In GoDaddy:
- A product lives in your online store catalog. It's the master record, consisting of a stock-keeping unit (SKU), description, images and inventory count.
- A listing lives on a marketplace. It's how one of your products is displayed for sale on that marketplace. One product can have many listings—one listing per marketplace you sell on.
When your online store catalog and listings are connected through an SKU, inventory and quantities automatically update in your online store and every marketplace as orders come in. You manage everything from your GoDaddy account. Find out more about SKUs and when to use them.
How syncing works
A good rule is to create 1 unique SKU per product variant (size, color, etc.) and use it everywhere that product appears. It's worth taking a few minutes to add product options with SKUs before you connect your first marketplace.
- Most syncing works automatically. When you connect your online store to a marketplace, the 2 are linked using the SKU. If a listing's SKU matches a product SKU you already have, they're synced right away. You don't have to do anything.
- Sometimes a listing can't be matched automatically because its SKU doesn't match a product in your catalog or the SKU is missing. When that happens, you'll see a warning on the listing, telling you to establish a link to be able to synchronize the listing.
- You'll also see a broken chain icon next to the listing. From there you can link it to an existing product or turn the listing into a new product in your catalog. Step 4 of this series covers both options.
