Your cost is going to depend on where you are transferring to. This fee "typically" extends the registration by one year.
You will want to make sure the domain is unlocked and that you get the auth codes which you can get when you select manage domain.
One thing that I would point out is that GoDaddy's DNS allows you to set the TTL (Time to Live) to 10 minutes - many others are 1 - 4 hours.
Additionally keep in mind you can move the DNS servers to another provider without transferring the registration.
