What is an identity verification method?

Identity verification improves your account security during high-risk actions (like changing your password) or if we detect suspicious login attempts. When you set up an identity verification method, we may prompt you to confirm your identity through one of these supported methods:

Verification methodSecurity levelHow it works
SMS text messageGoodWe'll text you a 6-digit code for you to enter.
Authenticator app, like Google Authenticator or Authy, on your phone or other deviceBetterYou must enter the code shown on your app.
Hardware security key, such as a Yubikey or Google TitanBestYou must connect your security key to your computer. You must also add a backup method so GoDaddy Guides can still verify your identity.

Note: We always recommend setting a backup verification method. If you lose access to your primary verification method before you can remove it from your account, you can still use the backup to access your account. When you enable a primary verification method, always set the backup method at the same time.
