Gen 4 VPS & Dedicated Servers Help

Set up my CDN/WAF for my VPS

Get performance optimization and extra security from web-based threats with our Content Delievery Network/Web Application Firewall (CDN/WAF). This feature can be set up in your GoDaddy account.

Add your domain

  1. Sign in to your GoDaddy product page.
  2. In your My Products page, select Servers.
  3. Next to the VPS you want to use, select Manage.
  4. At the top, select CDN/WAF.
  5. Select Set Up Your First Site. If you've already set up domains on your CDN/WAF, select Set Up New Domain.
  6. Under Site domain, enter your domain name.
  7. Select the IP address dropdown menu and choose an IP address.
  8. Select Add.

A success message will appear in the top-right, and your domain will be added to your CDN/WAF.

Verify and point your domain

In your CDN/WAF, if your domain says VERIFICATION NEEDED, you’ll need to verify using DNS. These instructions are only for domains with DNS managed at GoDaddy. If your domain is not with GoDaddy, you'll need to update your records with your DNS provider.

  1. In your CDN/WAF, next to your domain, select Finish Verification. You'll see the Add CDN/WAF to new domain page with the TXT records you need to create.
  2. Sign in to your GoDaddy Domain Portfolio. (Need help logging in? Find your username or password.)
  3. Under Domain Name, select your domain.
  4. Under your domain name, select DNS.
  5. Select Add New Record.
  6. Enter the following details:
    • Type: Select TXT.
    • Name: Enter a Name from your Add CDN/WAF to new domain page.
    • Value: Enter the associated Value from your Add CDN/WAF to new domain page.
    • TTL: Leave a Default.
    • Required: For the Name, make sure to only enter the subdomain. For example, if you're creating a TXT record for _acme-challenge.coolexample.com, you'll enter _acme-challenge as the Name.
  7. Select Add More Records and repeat Step 6 until you've added all the TXT records from your Add CDN/WAF to new domain page.
  8. If your domain's A record is not pointed to your VPS IP address, select Add More Records or edit your existing A record, and then enter the following details:
    • Type: Select A.
    • Name: @ or blank
    • Value: Enter your IP address
    • TTL: Leave as Default.
  9. Select Save.

No further action is required. Once your DNS changes take effect, your domain will be set up on your CDN/WAF and the VERIFICATION NEEDED message will go away. Most DNS changes take effect within an hour but could take up to 48 hours to update globally.
