Fix Microsoft 365 sign-in issues with Outlook for Windows

If you can't sign in to your Microsoft 365 email in Outlook on Windows, your computer might be using an older sign-in experience that's no longer supported. Update Windows and turn on the newer sign-in experience to fix it.

Required: Windows 11 version 24H2 or later. Windows 10 isn't supported. You need administrator access to the affected computer to perform these steps. If you don't have administrator access, contact your admin.
Warning: These steps change the Windows Registry. Incorrect registry changes can cause serious problems with your computer. Only change the settings described below.

Check your Windows version

  1. Select Start, and then Settings.
  2. Select System, and then About.
  3. Under Windows specifications, check Edition and Version.
    • If Edition shows Windows 11 and Version shows 24H2 or later, continue to the next section.
    • If Version shows 23H2 or earlier, you'll need to install a newer version of Windows 11 in the next section.
    • If Edition shows Windows 10, these steps won't work. Use Outlook on the web instead.

Update Windows

  1. Select Start, and then Settings.
  2. Select Windows Update, and then Check for updates.
  3. If you see an option to download and install a newer version of Windows 11, install it.
  4. Install all other available updates, and then restart your computer if prompted.

Turn on the newer sign-in experience

  1. Select Start and search for Registry Editor.
  2. Right-click Registry Editor, and then select Run as administrator. If Windows asks for permission, select Yes.
  3. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\AAD. If the AAD key doesn't exist, create it:
    1. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows.
    2. Right-click Windows, and then select New > Key.
    3. Enter AAD as the key name.
  4. Select the AAD key. In the right pane, right-click an empty area, and then select New > DWORD (32-bit) Value. Don't select String Value or QWORD.
  5. Enter WebView2Integration as the value name.
  6. Double-click WebView2Integration, enter 1 in Value data, and then select OK.
  7. Close Registry Editor, and then restart your computer.
  8. Open Outlook and sign in to your Microsoft 365 email account. When prompted, complete the GoDaddy sign-in.
Note: To turn off the newer sign-in experience, change the WebView2Integration value to 0.

If you still can't sign in

Check these in order.

Remove settings that skip the newer sign-in experience

Some Outlook setups have custom settings that make Outlook skip the normal Windows sign-in. On those computers, the WebView2Integration setting has no effect.

Caution: On Citrix, Remote Desktop, or other shared or virtual desktops, these settings are often added on purpose to fix repeated password prompts. Check with your admin before removing them.
  1. Close Outlook and all other Office apps.
  2. While signed in to Windows as the person who uses Outlook, select Start, search for Registry Editor, and open it. Don't select Run as administrator.
  3. Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Common\Identity.
  4. In the right pane, look for these values:
    • DisableAADWAM
    • DisableADALatopWAMOverride
    • EnableADAL
  5. Right-click each one that exists, select Delete, and then select Yes. If none of these values are there, this isn't the problem. Continue to the next check.
  6. If you deleted any values, close Registry Editor, restart your computer, and then sign in to Outlook.
Note: These settings are saved separately for each person. If more than one person uses Outlook on this computer, repeat these steps while signed in as each of them.

Check that WebView2 is installed

  1. Select Start, and then Settings.
  2. Select Apps, and then Installed apps (or Apps & features).
  3. Search your installed apps for Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime.
  4. If it's missing, go to Microsoft's WebView2 page, download and run the Evergreen Bootstrapper, restart your computer, and then try signing in again.
