Auto-Renewed SAN SSL -- will the old key work with it or not?

Hi,

We are not hosted on GoDaddy, but we do buy our SSLs here. A SAN SSL certificate recently auto-renewed, and I have downloaded a couple .crt files and a pem file, as expected. My question is whether the new cert has to be rekeyed or whether it will work with the old private key from last year's initial purchase. I have read messages here indicating that a new CSR would even be required, in which case the autorenew was probably a mistake for my situation.

Thanks!

Hi @SteveWPL,

Welcome to the Community!

If an SSL is not renewed by its expiration date, it will show up as invalid security online. The old private key will no longer function. Your actions needed for the CSR and installation will depend on the server on which it's being applied. You may want to check out this search in our help files, or use it as a starting place to find the instruction for your specific server.
