403 error, Forbidden

Hello,

I am new to GoDaddy, web development and anything related to web hosting.

I have uploaded all my files on my file manager but every time I access my website, I get an error 403 message forbidden.

"403 Forbidden

Forbidden

You don't have permission to access / on this server.

Additionally, a 403 Forbidden error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request."

On a side note, all my files are permissioned for execution.

Please let me know what is required from my end to share more information for you to help.

I appreciate your support .

Re: 403 error, Forbidden

Greetings @ebaatli and welcome. Clearly there is something wrong wit the read permissions, somewhere. Per our article https://www.godaddy.com/help/common-web-page-errors-2505 -

Forbidden errors display when somebody tries to access a directory, file, or script without appropriate permissions. For example, if a script is readable only to the user and others cannot access the file, they'll see a 403 error.Invalid index files and empty directories can also cause 403 errors. For more information, see one of the following articles based on the type of hosting account you have: Web & Classic / cPanel / Plesk.

Accounts suspended for network violations might also produce 403 errors. To confirm this is not the case, contact Hosting Support.

If that isn't enough help, our 24/7 Support can look at the account specifically.

Re: Keep getting a HTTP ERROR 403 when uploading any file to my wordpress

Re: 403 error, Forbidden

I was able to fix it by uninstalling wordpress on my subdomain then when i went to reinstall wordpress I made sure i used the first option i was given which was (this is an example) http://example.com But make sure you back up back your files always, as i didn't need to do this since this was a fresh domain.

Re: 403 error, Forbidden

But I have made no changes to my website. I have not even visited it in a month or so. So there are no change I could have made to create this problem. I am getting a 403 error to my blog and any other directories I was able to access without issue before.

This site houses my blog and photos with at least 12 years of posts so it is not something I can lose by deleting and reinstalling wordpress or something like that.

I just used Filezilla to see if all the files and directories are still there and am relieved to find that everything seems to be the same as the last time I uploaded some photos with filezilla - Sept. 2016. There has been no problem with the site until this happened within the last month or so.

What could have caused this and how can it be fixed? My site is lancebarton.com

Re: 403 error, Forbidden

I also had this error crop up and searching forums and unhelpful suggestions about htaccess files doesn't help if you are using a windows system (because there is no htaccess file).

The solution for me is specific to my situation:

I have a domain registered in Japan that I cannot transfer to GoDaddy (rules).  Updating a small item in the DNS changed the name-server order and the internet queries would sometimes get picked up by the wrong nameserver, rather than the required GoDaddy nameserver.

Solution was to delete the unnecessary nameserver leaving only the correct GoDaddy one.

Re: 403 error, Forbidden

Mine is also saying 403 error, forbidden every time i try to load my page: katiessimpson. I have tried changing the permissions in the cPanel File Manager and it still does not work.

Thank you, that was helpful. I was having the same problem for my site  Speedy Article and I had to call Godaddy for a solution. It took about two days to get it fixed.

Re: 403 error, Forbidden

I am having the same issue with my website. After I load in all my files I then go to my sites domain. I then see the 403 Forbidden error. I am not sure what the issue is because I was able to go through the same process for another site I created and hosted on go daddy no problem.

Re: 403 error, Forbidden

I am also facing the same issue. I had point to domain from my previous registrar Names.co.uk to godaddy. I filled Godaddy IP address in the a records at Names.co.uk.

Almost 3 days gone, my website is still showing 403 Forbidden Error. I also updated my name servers there (filled godaddy name servers) But don't know what step is remaining to be done by my end.

This is my domain http://deinde.co.uk I want to transfer onto Godaddy.

I want to keep all my emails, hosting and domains at Godaddy. I have my four business websites with different countries extensions:

http://deinde.in

http://deinde.co.uk

http://deinde.us

http://deinde.eu

This is my first experience of Migrating websites. Please guide me the whole process for the following:

1. Domain Transfer

2. Hosting Migration

3. Workspace Email Backup (If possible)

4. Email Transfer

Re: 403 error, Forbidden

@davvy056 your issue might be similar to the one I had last year.  make sure that the name servers in the DNS are only the ones used at GoDaddy.  In your previous register (Names .co.uk) make sure there are no other entries in the DNS records.

The reason (sounds simple now) is that a lookup on the website grabs the "closest" information that comes to hand.  If the information from GoDaddy and Names is diferent, or there is any information that points to a differnt IP, then your serarch can get confused - hence the 403.

Also make sure the DNS is pointing at your IP.  I also had an issue doing a renewal on GoDaddy that changed my default page (without warning, and for a renewal???) that broke my site for a few hours until I found they had inserted a default/dummy entry in the DNS records.

Re: 403 error, Forbidden

I have the same problem.  The file is on the server.  But the user and group id both are mine, not for nobody or inetuser.   I think this maybe the problem?  Could you please help.

You don't have permission to access /s.html on this server.
Server unable to read htaccess file, denying access to be safe

Thank you for your time!

Re: 403 error, Forbidden

There are some hints in the stackoverflow forums and one of the answers specifically mentions GoDaddy directory permissions.  It looks like the .htaccess file is not readable due to a file/directory permissions issue - that is suggested by the error message.

Re: 403 error, Forbidden

Hi,

I keep getting a 403 error. I was wondering if there is something suspended that I don't know about. Thank you.
