How to generate CSR for code signing on Windows 10

Hi, previously I've set up and code signed executables on a windows 7 Pro machine - my last code signing cert expired and although I renewed it a few months ago, I've only just got around to needing to use the new one.

My dev machine now is a Windows 10 and the instructions for making a CSR on Windows 7 don't work - my machine deviates from the script at this point;
4. Click Active Directory Enrollment Policy.
5. From Template, click Web Server.

I don't see the ADEP option, I only see 'Proceed without enrollment policy' under 'Custom Request', and if I proceed from choosing that, I don't get suitable options under 'Template' on the next screen.

Can anyone explain, in a step-by-step fashion, how to generate a suitable CSR for code signing, on Windows 10?

Thanks!

Re: How to generate CSR for code signing on Windows 10

Hey @robuttley,

Did a little checking with our SSL teams and they mentioned that MMC should be the same on every machine. The only thing is with Windows 10 there may be different methods of getting to it. Unfortunately, we don't have help articles on our end for Windows 10. However, we did locate this one article that should help.

Re: How to generate CSR for code signing on Windows 10

Hi, thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, opening MMC isn't the issue, it's that I'm not seeing the same options in MMC under Windows 10 that you have on Windows 7.

I really don't want to have to have a Windows 7 VM kicking around just for code signing but I need to get this resolved before the weekend so maybe I'll need to do just that for the time being. It would be really cool if GoDaddy could update their CSR docs to include Windows 10.

I'm having this same issue, the help desk was no help. Please provide some guidance on this issue on such a widely used platform ( Windows 10 )

Re: How to generate CSR for code signing on Windows 10

Just tried to follow these instructions on a windows 7 system and ran into the same issue.

The option for Active Directory Enrollment Policy is not available.

Its possible that this option is not available to machines that do not belong to an active directory domain. If this is the case directions similar to these need to be provided for non AD systems.

Without the specifics of the Web Server Template configuration and go daddy specs its near impossible to trial and error this setup.

Re: How to generate CSR for code signing on Windows 10

Hi

Not sure it will work in the end, but I have created the CSR following this: https://www.ssltrust.com.au/blog/code-signing-certificates/

The GoDaddy's setup procedure was OK with it

Re: How to generate CSR for code signing on Windows 10

I was also having this issue using MMC and Windows 10.

I will day that after contacting Godaddy numerous time they were entirely unhelpful - GoDaddy offer Code Signing Certificates by everyone I spoke to said they didn't really know anything about them.

I followed the link: https://www.ssltrust.com.au/blog/code-signing-certificates/

Used these instructions to create CSR and re-keyed my certificate.

Just waiting to see from my software developer if it works correctly in the installers that it was intended for.

GoDaddy - YOU NEED TO SUPPORT WINDOWS 10!
