Websites + Marketing Help

Add an external link to my website’s header or footer

Adding links to external reputable and relevant sites can add credibility to your business. It can also improve your website's search engine optimization (SEO) by showing that your content is well-researched and connected to relevant topics.

There are 2 ways in which you can add links to your website. The first is by linking a photo or linking some text, and the second is by adding links to the header navigation or the footer of your site so that they appear on every page.

To add a link to your site’s footer or main navigation:

  1. Go to your GoDaddy product page.
  2. Scroll down, expand Websites + Marketing and select Manage next to your site.
  3. Select Edit Website or Edit Site.
  4. Add the link.
    • If you're making the updates to your website in a browser, in the right panel, select Add a new link plus sign icon Add.

    • In the mobile app, select Pages and then Add.
  5. Select New External Link.
  6. In the Link Title box, add the text that will appear for the link. Use a short, descriptive phrase that gives visitors an indication of what to expect if they click the link, e.g. Learn to paint. You’re limited to 25 characters, including spaces.
  7. In the Website URL box, enter the full link, e.g. https://www.coolexample.com.
  8. Switch on the toggles to add the link to your site's main navigation or footer.
    • Show in Navigation makes it appear in the main, header navigation.
    • Footer displays a link to the page at the bottom of each page on your website.
  9. Select Create Link. Your changes are saved automatically.
  10. Use Preview to see the results, and when you're ready to make the changes public, select Publish.
