Announcing deadline extension for Backorders

GoDaddy

Last year, we announced our plan to phase out Backorders. Today, we’re pleased to share that we’re extending the deadline to use your Backorders.

To ensure that customers with existing Backorders have the maximum opportunity to use their remaining credits, we’re giving you an extra 60 days to use them. This means that you’ll now have until October 7, 2025, to use your Backorder credits at GoDaddy.

What's being retired?

Our Backorders service allowed customers to monitor and potentially acquire expiring domain names. However, with the Backorders service being retired, after October 7, 2025, you’ll no longer be able to place a backorder on a domain name at GoDaddy or track domain changes using our Monitoring service.

These features have served many customers over the years, but as the domain industry changes, we’re seeing a shift in how people secure expired domain names.

More customers than ever are using GoDaddy Auctions to acquire expired or closeout domains quickly and efficiently. With over 35,000 new domains added to GoDaddy Auctions every day, we believe this platform now offers the most effective way to find and purchase the names you want.

What this means for you

If you still have Backorder credits, you’ll be able to use them up until October 7, 2025. To check your balance:

  1. Sign in to your GoDaddy account and head to the Products section.
  2. Scroll down to the Domain Products tab, where you’ll see any available Backorders.

The most effective way to use your Backorder credit is by assigning it to GoDaddy Expired Auction Domains. With thousands of domains listed daily, we’re confident you’ll find options that meet your needs.

Here’s how to assign your Backorder credit to GoDaddy Expired Auction Domains:

  1. Go to the Products page of your GoDaddy account.
  2. Under "Domain Products," locate "Domain Backorders." Click "Manage."
  3. From the Backorders platform, select "Add Monitoring," located in the top-right-hand corner.
  4. Enter the domain name(s) you're interested in purchasing at Auctions, and click "Ok."
  5. Once you can see your domain names listed, select the domain name(s) you are purchasing.
  6. Click "Upgrade to Backorder" to assign a Backorder to your Auctions purchase.

If you're a customer with API access, you can place Backorders through your API.

For those who currently use our Monitoring service, we recommend exploring alternative domain monitoring tools to improve your workflow.

Looking ahead

As we retire Backorders and Monitoring, we’re here to help. If you have questions or need assistance with your Backorder credits, please reach out to our support team.

While this is the final step in the retirement of GoDaddy’s Backorder and Monitoring services, we’re excited to be a part of the future of expired domain purchases through GoDaddy Auctions.
