In case you’re not aware, the Windy City is awesome during the summer with its street festivals, glistening lake, and amazing entertainment scene. And Chicago was 100 times more awesome the weekend of June 13-15 as 500+ website builders, creatives, and enthusiasts came together to teach and learn about everything WordPress® during WordCamp Chicago 2014.

I’ve used WordPress for a long time on my personal blog, and have my favorite plugins (Wordfence and Hashtag, to name just a few), but I had never attended a WordCamp before last weekend. I certainly wasn’t disappointed. I met some incredibly talented WordPress professionals who came from all over the Midwest and even Canada. That’s worth the trip alone, eh?

The event kicked off at Lou Malnati's Pizzeria for some networking and authentic deep-dish pie on Thursday night and ran through three WordPress information-packed days. I learned so much from fellow WordPress creators. One of my favorite takeaways was that there is a ton of value in creating a customized admin experience for your users, as explained by session presenter Jamie Sanchez (@spacedragon).

The weekend wrapped Sunday with an after-party filled with great food, new friends, and tons of inspiring conversations about WordPress. You can check out a few of my pics from the event here.
