Tell us a little bit about yourself and your career at GoDaddy.

My career at GoDaddy began way back in 2005, fresh out of university, after gaining my B.Sc. in Computer Information systems and Network Security at Liverpool University. It took less than a week of applying for jobs to have the opportunity to work in the data center environment, formerly known as Pipex. With one DC based just outside the centre of Leeds, I began my career as a 1st Line Data Center Operations Engineer. A couple of years in, I moved onward to becoming a 2nd Line Engineer responsible for the internal and customer networks. From there, I became responsible for the infrastructure, (cooling, power, etc). I am now back in Operations. I can honestly say that GoDaddy has been the greatest, biggest and best step we have taken here in Leeds! I have the privilege of working with some of the kindest and smartest people in the industry, where everyday is fun and challenging. Even now, it still feels like I am learning and progressing in my career. Working with people across the globe is so fulfilling. In the data center space, we have an incredibly strong and diverse team that I am proud to be a part of.

What’s the most challenging yet rewarding thing that you’ve worked on at GoDaddy?

Being trusted with additional responsibility and management of additional staff in new European locations. I’m used to being face-to-face with my staff, interacting with them daily. So, taking new ownership of another remote location brought new challenges and ways to communicate and work with staff. I’ve been lucky in having such a wonderful team in Amsterdam, who have really welcomed me, trained and exposed me to new processes and procedures. I have learnt a huge amount from them. In return, I hope I can be the support tool and point of contact they need at any point.

Tell us a little bit more about your team and characteristics you value the most in your colleagues.

I have the privilege to work with some amazing people, not just those within my team. I am currently responsible for the DC Operations teams both in Leeds and Amsterdam. These individuals are extremely talented, have an eclectic mix of personalities, and a wide range of skillsets that can function under any circumstance.

I believe in being open and honest with your team and creating a space where they feel the same. This allows us all to create, resolve and/or re-invent. I know I can go to any team member with a problem, an idea, or a suggestion (no matter how small the task at hand is) and they will jump on it and provide solutions.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

My first love is my family. My wife, Natalie, is incredible and I don’t know how she puts up with me. Together, we have two gorgeous children Noah (11) and Eleanor (6). When we’re not out exploring around Yorkshire, we’re re-decorating our new home and garden.

If it’s not family, its football. I support Manchester United and used to play football 2–4 times a week. Unfortunately, now, my body now tells me that’s a bad idea!

Music is my other passion. Play me some hip-hop or trance (random I know) and I'll be bouncing round the office like a madman.
