File will not upload (.doc, .docx)

I have am unable to upload .doc & .docx files using Chrome or Firefox browser. I'm running Windows 10 and have restarted but that did not change anything. Below is a screenshot of the message I get. I did a support chat (which is only working on Firefox) and had to email the docs to the agent and the agent uploaded them for me.

Any ideas what my issue may be?

I think you may have put this in the wrong section. You can upload a .doc/.docx file with no issue to the Websites + Marketing platform. You just have to add a section for downloadable files and upload it.

I believe you're most likely on the WordPress platform on one of GoDaddy's shared servers. The reason for not allowing .doc/.docx files on shared hosting is security. You can very easily hide malicious code in these file types that slip by a lot of scanners, allowing infection of other sites.

You will not only find this restriction on GoDaddy, but MANY other hosting services offering shared hosting platforms.

One solution is to purchase a VPS or Dedicated Server on which to host your sites. These have no restrictions as you're responsible for their security and you're the only user.

Another easy solution would be to convert your documents to PDF files (or one of the other allowed file types) for distribution. Conversion to a new file type is easy in today's world.
