I was around when Al Gore invented the Internet … well, not quite, but I was sending email in 1993 over my dial-up modem. I started my first Web business in 1995 when our servers cost $20,000 each and the team compiled our C code directly into Netscape Communications Servers. The one constant over the past 20 years: email is still a part of our lives. My son gets homework assignments emailed. My wife emails out invitations to school events. The nonprofits I’m involved with send class schedules and coupons via email. And the many sports teams we’re a part of send reminders and updates to practices, games and events.
For years I’ve heard that email is antiquated and will be replaced. It’s true that there are now many places to get the word out — social media, webinars, networking events, and business listings, just to name a few. But the data on effectiveness shows there is a ton of power in communicating with prospects and customers through email.
Companies and people keep using email because it works.
The stats don’t lie
McKinsey research shows:
- Email is 40 times more effective than Facebook® and Twitter® combined as a way to acquire customers.
- The rate at which emails prompt purchases is estimated to be at least three times that of social media.
That’s a lot of potential eyes on what you do and a good place for prospects and customers to engage with you. Even better, good email marketing connects you to people who care specifically about what you have to offer them. It can connect you to your biggest fans. And it can remind people who you are and why you’re different than everyone else.
GoDaddy and Mad Mimi are joining forces
And that’s why we’re so excited to team up with Mad Mimi to give small business owners (and freelancers and moonlighters and startups and nonprofits) a simple, beautiful, and powerful way to use email marketing to accomplish their goals.
So, in the spirit of late-night talk show explanations, we thought we’d share with you the top 10 reasons we think this is great news for small organizations trying to make big things happen.
Top 10 reasons this is awesome (for you)
No. 10: Because Mad Mimi has a great character. Seriously. She wears horn-rimmed glasses and has flowers in her hair. It gives you a good idea that you’re dealing with real people who care about making creative stuff work for you.
No. 9: Because of the beard. Gary, their founder and CEO, sometimes sports a pretty epic beard. Entrepreneur, skateboarder, musician, husband, and father. What’s not to like? He knows personally what small organizations need to succeed.
No. 8: Because they help you measure success. And they keep that clean and simple as well. Real-time stats and easy-to-read reports make it simple for you to figure out what works and what doesn’t. You can learn more about email marketing metrics on their website.
No. 7: Because Mad Mimi works with tools you’re already using. Chances are good that you’re using social media and you might be using a content management system or shopping cart or blog. Mad Mimi works with them.
No. 6: Because they help you make beautiful email. It’s important. Your content and your subject line might be crazy clever material, but once someone opens your email, you’ve only got two seconds to make that first impression. Check out some of their examples.
No. 5: Because it’s easy to use. There are email marketing tools that might work for old-school marketing departments. Mad Mimi is different. It’s clean, effective, and elegant. It’s made for startups and small organizations (and anyone who likes to keep things simple).
No. 4: Because their blog is great. If you want helpful information about getting your business off the ground and how to spread the word about what you’re doing, there’s some fantastic content in Mad Mimi’s blog. You’ll love it. Check it out.
No. 3: Because together we have more to offer small business owners. This is another tool that helps small organizations succeed. Together we can help you name your business, build your site, manage your office, and spread the word online.
No. 2: Because Mad Mimi roots for the underdog. GoDaddy and Mad Mimi feel the same way about folks who start something in their garage or take the leap and strike out on their own. We love entrepreneurs. We want to see small businesses do big things.
No. 1: Because Mad Mimi’s customers love them. This is huge. It’s because everyone at Mad Mimi helps customers out. Everyone. Maybe you write, maybe you design, maybe you code. If you work at Mad Mimi, you help customers. Check out some of their kudos.
