I was around when Al Gore invented the Internet … well, not quite, but I was sending email in 1993 over my dial-up modem. I started my first Web business in 1995 when our servers cost $20,000 each and the team compiled our C code directly into Netscape Communications Servers. The one constant over the past 20 years: email is still a part of our lives. My son gets homework assignments emailed. My wife emails out invitations to school events. The nonprofits I’m involved with send class schedules and coupons via email. And the many sports teams we’re a part of send reminders and updates to practices, games and events.

For years I’ve heard that email is antiquated and will be replaced. It’s true that there are now many places to get the word out — social media, webinars, networking events, and business listings, just to name a few. But the data on effectiveness shows there is a ton of power in communicating with prospects and customers through email.
